DETAILS OF ACCOMMODATION The house - "La Recampado" is a pretty converted gardener's cottage in the grounds of a larger house (owned by the same family), with its own separate entrance, and driveway. Steps lead down from a large terrace to the swimming pool (10 x 6m), which is surrounded by a large garden with mature trees, with countryside around. House (right) with pool (left)
The house comprises of a sitting room, with easy chairs, with TV and CD radio player; a dining room with table to sit 4, with stairs going up to a mezzanine area with 2 single beds. There is a fold out couch in the sitting room which can be used as a single bed. The kitchen is fully equipped with refrigerator, gas cooker, microwave, and washing machine. There is a large double bedroom, as well as a bathroom with shower, washbasin, and WC. Almost all rooms open out onto the terrace, where there are tables, large pool with summer house - with its own summer kitchen, WC, double bedroom, and barbecue. The house has wireless wi-fi broad band internet access (ADSL). |

ABOUT CABRIES, AIX EN PROVENCE, AND AREA La Recampado, is just outside Cabries, a pretty hilltop village, with medieval streets, old buildings, and art museum "Musee Melik" with exhibitions of work by Picasso, Dali, and Cèsar. There are excellent restaurants, shops for almost all your needs, and there is an outdoor market on Saturdays. There are events year round - Pottery market (May), Garlic festival (mid-July), Aioli Celebration (end of August). 5 minutes drive is Aix en Provence, a town swarming with things to see and do. Its the home to numerous art colleges, and to a number of international universities - so the town is vibrant with youth. Back in Medieval times the town was surrounded by 39 towers, now all that is left is the "Tourreluquo" tower, at the northwest end of the town. At Aix's center is the Cours Mirabeau, a tree lined avenue with cafés, bookshops, which are sometimes reflected in the water of a number of fountains along it course - including the Great Fountain at La Rotunda, and the moss covered hot water fountain that has been bubbling for 2000 years. The old town is a maze of shops, restaurants, museums, churches. Sights to see are the Granet museum, and the 13th century Eglise St Jean de Malte, and the Sextius Baths (18th century baths, in a large tree shaded park, near the original site of the Roman baths). For those seeking the sea - the nearest resort is Carry Le Rouet, a half an hour drive from La Recampado. Carry was the favored resort of comic actor Fernandel, who built his family's house on the beach. The sea is known for a clearness, and the restaurants of the town for their fresh fish. Here enjoy the sea or walk along its shores along La Cote Bleue. If you seeking cosmopolitan energy - go to Marseilles, with a vibrant mix of port, museums, shops, night clubs and numerous restaurants. Go to the oldest stock exchange - La Bourse - in France which is now the Marine Museum, visit the Fine Arts Museum with a fine collection or art works; the Louis Grobert-Labadie Museum - a sumptuous art lovers 19th century mansion; Borély Park - an archaeological museum, with the 2nd largest exhibition of Egyptian art, after the Louvre; and perhaps follow in the steps of the Count of Monte Christo and visit the Chateau d'If - a prison built in 1524, that was immortalized in the story by Alexandre Dumas.
